Step into the Gap

CAFOD is delighted to announce a new year out experience for 18-30 year olds. The programme is supported by the Society of the Holy Child Jesus and offers young adults a fully funded ten month placement with a vibrant school chaplaincy or dynamic youth ministry team in the UK.

The young adults will explore and promote global justice issues while developing their leadership skills and influencing others to act for change. During their ten months they will also visit grassroots development projects run by CAFOD partners and the Holy Child Sisters in Africa or Asia.

The new scheme is called “Step into the Gap” and offers “a year out experience … that goes beyond the guidebooks.” It will give the participants an opportunity to make the links between faith, action and the global dimension. By working both overseas and in the UK it will bridge the ‘gap’ between the elements of adventure and service that occur in traditional year out experiences.

Applicants are invited from across the UK, and the national placement will be with two youth organisations in England; St Mary’s College Chaplaincy in Blackpool and the Hexham and Newcastle Diocesan Youth Mission Team. Successful applicants will begin their year in September 2009.

A poster and leaflet for each of the project options is attached to this email. We would really appreciate it if you could advertise this opportunity to any young adults you work with between the ages of 18-30. Please also feel free to promote this programme within any relevant networks with which you are involved.

If you would like any further information please contact Helen Gough on 07770 733 574 or youngleadership@cafod.org.uk or visit our website at

www.cafod.org.uk/stepintothegap

We're quite excited about this and it's coming together really well. If you'd like a chat about any aspect of it, do contact Helen Gough who's coordinating the whole scheme, or you can phone me at any time.

Very best wishes,

Rosa
